A police marksman has walked free from court after a jury cleared him of murdering Chris Kaba during a “hard stop” in south London. READ MORE: https://www.thetimes.com/uk/crime/art... Martyn Blake, 40, fired a single gunshot that struck Kaba, 24, in the forehead during a “tactical operation” in Streatham Hill on September 5, 2022. Kaba died in hospital. A year later, the Metropolitan Police firearms officer was charged after a referral from the Independent Office for Police Conduct (IOPC). Blake denied murder. Prosecutors claimed that Blake might have been “angry, frustrated and annoyed” when Kaba ignored officers’ demands to get out of the car. Blake rejected this assertion and said he never set out to kill Kaba but intended to incapacitate him in accordance with his training. “If I had not acted, I thought one of my colleagues would be dead. I felt I had a duty to protect them,” he told the Old Bailey.
