Yangzhou, known as Guangling, Jiangdu, and Weiyang in ancient times, is a prefecture-level city under the jurisdiction of Jiangsu Province. It is an important part of Jiangsu Yangtze River Economic Belt, a member city of Nanjing Metropolitan Circle and a city in the Yangtze River Delta, and one of the 27 cities in the central area of the Yangtze River Delta. [1] It is a World Heritage City, World Food Capital, World Canal Capital, East Asian Cultural Capital, the first batch of national historical and cultural cities, and a scenic tourist city with traditional characteristics [2]. The city has a total area of 6591.21 square kilometers, governs 3 districts and 1 county, and manages 2 county-level cities [38]. According to the seventh census data, as of 00:00 on November 1, 2020, the permanent population of Yangzhou City was 4,559,797. [37] In 2020, Yangzhou will achieve a regional GDP of 604.833 billion yuan. [10] Yangzhou is located in the middle of Jiangsu Province, at the intersection of the Yangtze River and the Beijing-Hangzhou Grand Canal. It is known as the geographic geometric center of Jiangsu Province (Gaoyou City, Yangzhou), as the "Famous Capital of Huaizuo and the Best Place in Zhuxi", as well as the "Canal of China" The reputation of "First City"; known as Yang Yiyi Two, Moon City. [3-5] The history of the city can be traced back to 486 BC. [3] The Yangzhou section of the Grand Canal of China was included in the World Heritage List; Yangzhou was included in the China Maritime Silk Road as one of the World Heritage cities. Yangzhou is the water source of the East Route of the South-to-North Water Diversion Project, a UN Habitat Award-winning city, a national civilized city, a famous hot spring city in China, a national garden city, and a national forest city. [6] Yangzhou successfully hosted the 2017 World Sports Events and Tourism Summit, the World Geographical Indications Conference, the World Canal City Forum, the 2018 World Canal Customs and Folklore Exhibition, the 19th Jiangsu Provincial Games[7], the 10th Jiangsu Horticultural Exposition, The 2021 Yangzhou World Horticultural Exposition and the 2022 World Half Marathon Championship will be held. In 2018, the ranking of China's top 100 cities was announced, and Yangzhou ranked 45th. In November 2018, it was selected as one of the top 100 cities in the overall well-off index of China. On October 31, 2019, Yangzhou was selected as the gourmet capital of the world. In October 2020, it was rated as a national model city (county) with dual support.
