Food and Drugs, the perfect recipe for symbiosis | Dr David Clarke | TEDxUniversityCollegeCork

Dr David Clarke a microbiologist and funded research in APC microbiome Ireland gives insight into our place in the world alongside micro-organisms and reframes the typically negative perception we often have of bacteria. Taking us on a journey from how we discovered the gut-brain axis, to our current understanding of the symbiotic relationship we have with microbiota and the cutting edge work he is a part of in the APC microbiome institute in University College Cork. Graduating with a BSc in Biotechnology from DCU, Dr Clarke then went onto complete a PhD in Microbiology from NUIM. Lecturing in microbiology in UCC since 2007 Dr Clarke is also a funded investigator in the APC Microbiome Ireland located in UCC. Research that contributes €1.2million to the Irish economy each week, the APC researches the identification and characterisation of molecular mechanisms that underpin bacteria-host interactions.
