Alex entertains the crowd with a 57 break in the second frame of this last 16 encounter with Dave Harold. Higgins, who had to play qualifying rounds at this time was playing some good stuff, having despatched Nigel Bond in the previous round. Unfortunately, this was probably one of last times Alex made the televised phase of a ranking tournament. Harold himself was also in good form, having reached the final of the Skoda Grand Prix a month or so earlier, only to be beaten by 19 year old wonderkid John Higgins. Notice how referee John Street, aware of Higgins' confrontational prowess, almost gallops to re-spot colours and thus move himself beyond Higgins line of shot!
