She had been with Three's Company for four seasons and in the meantime, she had gone from being a nobody to being featured on the cover of numerous magazines. Her run on the show was suddenly cut short when she went to the contract negotiation table and demanded that she receive equal pay to her male co-star John Ritter. Somers was already being paid $30,000 per episode but she knew her worth and felt like she deserved to be paid the same industry-standard $150,000 per episode that most male TV actors were being paid. After making her request, the execs responded by asking her 'Who do you think you are?" They wouldn't even consider her proposal and she was promptly fired - although she was still contractually obligated to finish filming the fifth season. She never expected to be fired just for requesting equal treatment, but instead of letting that situation get her down, she tapped into her inner-strength and went on to re-invent herself. She was determined to prove all of the naysayers wrong. Somer's attempt at reinventing herself proved to be quite successful.
