For the first time in approximately a year, a new magmatic intrusion has been confirmed to be ongoing on Iceland's Reykjanes peninsula. For now, this intrusion still remains at fairly deep depths in the crust, but it may only be a matter of time before it reaches the surface and erupts. Additionally, a strong earthquake swarm occurred at the Katla volcano, which seemingly also resulted in elevated geothermal gas emissions at one site. Note: Not all magmatic intrusions on the Reykjanes peninsula result in a volcanic eruption.
