Since tobacco farming makes extensive use of timber, Philip Morris launched a sustainable timber program for fuel wood. The sustainable timber program is a robust one that addresses sustainability at all levels from sourcing sustainable timber suppliers that are fully approved by the Forest Department to connecting them with tobacco farmers and even surveying tobacco crops in order to more accurately estimate the volumes of timber needed for the harvest. As one of the biggest tobacco companies in the world, our core sustainability focus is to address the health and environmental impact of cigarettes by developing better smoke-free alternatives for smokers who would otherwise continue to smoke cigarettes.
