Speaker: Martine Vrijheid, Research Professor and Director of the Environment and Health over the Lifecourse Programme at the ISGlobal. Abstract: While genomics has improved our understanding of hereditary risks, research indicates that up to 90% of disease risks are linked to environmental exposures, which remain largely unmeasured, underregulated and preventable. Exposomics, the systematic study of how environmental factors influence health, promises a comprehensive, data-driven approach to disease prevention, regulatory science, and public health policy. This talk explores the promises of the exposome, with specific focus on applications during early life vulnerable periods of development. The talk will show how exposomics approaches have been implemented in longitudinal population-based cohort studies, including through the integration of advanced exposure assessment and biological omics measures.
