Hongcun, located in Anhui Province, China, is one of the masterpieces of Huizhou architecture and one of the best-preserved examples of its kind. It was founded during the Southern Song Dynasty in the Shaoxing period, initially formed by a family named Wang who migrated to the area. Situated amidst a geographical setting of mountains on three sides, facing southwards, Hongcun is surrounded by picturesque landscapes. Its architectural layout embodies the harmony between humans and nature, with water being its central theme.
