Storm chasers battle BLIZZARD conditions to deploy sensors in BOMB CYCLONE on Cape Cod!

#ad On January 29, 2022, a bomb cyclone developed off the East Coast and delivered blizzard conditions to parts of New England and a significant storm surge to parts of Cape Cod. Snowfall at Boston Logan Airport tied the record for the snowiest ever with 23.6". Team Dominator storm chasers deployed a network of high-resolution pressure sensors in a triangle pattern on Cape Cod ahead of the cyclone, with the goal of sampling gravity waves generated by the bombing-out cyclone. The sensors were mounted to poles and pylons along Cape Cod Harbor in Sandwich, MA using Flex Tape by @Flex Seal. While the destructive storm surge eliminated the dune on which one of the sensors was mounted in Sandwich, MA, two of the sensors survived the incredibly harsh conditions of the blizzard and storm surge. One of the sensors even accumulated rime ice in the 60+ mph winds. The data is explained in a separate video, but the pressure trace exhibited a textbook rime ice accumulation signature.
