The concept is that a noise near a listener's tinnitus ringing frequency will give the mind another sound to think about and pull thoughts away from the internal tinnitus sound. It has worked for some listeners, however, it will not work for all types of tinnitus. A close match, within 5% to 10% of the mind's tinnitus frequency is needed. By shifting this boosted noise between 12.5 kHz and 13.5 kHz, it may cover a broader range for more listeners. The noise should be listened to 30% quieter than the tinnitus ringing.
