Daily Mohg playlist: • Daily "Beating Mohg with Every Weapon" (We... Item description: Scepter of the All Knowing: "Scepter in the form of a hand grasping a pearl. Signature weapon of Sir Gideon Ofnir, the All-Knowing. The pearl stands for the world, the heavens, and an eye, representing the many forms of knowledge, never fully attainable. Even knowing that, the All-Knowing's hand grasps for it." Description: This is a cooler weapon than people give it credit for. It does pierce damage on some of the moveset, notably on the unique thrusting running attacks, which pairs well with being among the longest of the Hammer class weapons and use of thrust counterattacks. It scales from Dexterity and Intelligence, meaning that leveling Dexterity will grant virtual dexterity for casting purposes. Finally, the L2 is just an magic and holy resistance debuff that unfortunately also applies to the player themselves, which reduces one's offensive options via weapon skills, but this is useful enough in PvE. I was planning on doing a Gideon character lore video thing, but it's not happening at this point. I'll just scribble a few notes in this description in lieu of that. Gideon is a deeply polarizing and fascinating character. He is initially condescending towards the player, telling them that they are a "mere visitor" and a "houseguest, yet to earn their keep". This prejudices the player against the Roundtable, or at least against Gideon himself. This changes to some extent later on; after collecting at least 1 Great Rune, the Two Fingers grant the Tarnished audience and so too does Gideon acknowledge them and grant access to his study. There, he offers dialogue hinting at the whereabouts of the other Shardbearers while giving some background on their history. He offers this information in collaborative spirit, promising rewards for any information you bring back to him. And indeed, he is the source of powerful incantations like Black Flame's Protection. In his own words: "We both desire to stand before the Elden Ring, and become Elden Lord. As such, I hope we are compelled to work together." Delving further into the questlines of characters related to him, such as Nepheli Loux or Seluvis, reveals many of his immoral actions. He commands an Omenkiller and Depraved Perfumer among his allies, who ransacked the Village of the Albinaurics in search of the Haligtree Secret Medallion. Ensha also attempts to slay the Tarnished to claim the Medallion for himself, though we can't be sure if Gideon directed him to do so or if Ensha acted alone, as Gideon claims. He refers to Nepheli as a "mere axe-wielding barbarian", despite her daughterly affection towards him, and when she is left heartbroken upon learning of his ill deeds, she can be nudged towards becoming a just ruler of Stormveil with the help of Kenneth Haight. However, Gideon does have his limits. He cut ties with Seluvis over what he did to Dolores, a former Tarnished of the Roundtable who was a "critic and friend" of Gideon's. He refers to Seluvis as a "bastard" and "twisted dolly botherer". He discourages the player from puppeting Nepheli, though he won't fight you over it, saying that he sees "potential" in her, greater than what she would have as a "bloody puppet". He calls Godrick a "grotesque old fool" and he dismisses Mohg and his Bloody Fingers, clearly looking down on such infighting between Tarnished. While the Lands Between obviously lie unplundered, awaiting the player's interaction, Gideon is among the most accomplished of the Tarnished named in the introduction sequence, unless we count the exploits of Godfrey among those of Hoarah Loux. Despite acting as a guidepost to the player since the Two Fingers don't have much to say about the Shardbearers, he could also be considered a rival Tarnished looking to become Elden Lord. While immoral, his actions at the Village of the Albinaurics were the closest steps anyone else in the Roundtable at the time had taken towards securing other Great Runes. And after glimpsing Marika's will, he faces the player in battle for the first and last time. While disappointingly easy to defeat, I will say: At least he isn't the NPC fight from the end of the DLC. That would have been so much worse, because their stats are jacked up to make up for their crappy AI. Moral of the story, Gideon's underrated. Bit of a prick, but who isn't. And while he actually has no feats, commands a bunch of minions to do all the work for him, and gets bodied even if you unlock all his spells for him by giving him Shardbearer information, that's because the Tarnished has plot armor, the ability to roll for on-demand iframes, and can respawn at graces for free. It is what it is. Music used: Yuka Kitamura - Elden Ring OST - The Immured
