This Lamborghini LM002 LM/American is being sold by our friends at Bring-A-Trailer in an online auction. There were 301 different LM002 models completed beginning in 1986 with the final versions being delivered in 1993. ZA9LU45AXLLA12243 was completed in model year, 1990. It was built in the last batch of sixty that were all designated as special edition "LM002 LM/American” primarily destined for the USA market. Of those 60, just 49 ended up coming to the States as the Sultan of Brunei took several quotas as did the Royal Family of Saudi Arabia, Kuwait and several other Persian Gulf Nations. The LM/American model debuted at the Detroit Motor Show in 1990. To distinguish the final version from the standard models, they were all fitted with the updated and improved fuel injection units and all had “OZ" alloy wheels chromed bumpers a special interior and various badging and trim features unique to the model. The car was initially part of two prominent collections after being delivered new until being offered for sale by Interstate Motor Sports out of Princeton, New Jersey in 2014 with an asking price of $395,000. At that time, the well-known YouTuber, Doug DeMuro rocketed to fame with the introduction of a video on this specific example. It has since then garnered nearly 5M views and nearly 9K comments! The car was purchased by a well-known, West Coast collector whose collection contains some of the finest vehicles in the world. After taking delivery and having his vehicle manager go through the car, a long list was drawn up to be addressed by his main service and restoration facility, none other than Bruce Canepa in Scotts Valley, California. From January to May of 2019, Canepa completed numerous services, work and repair that can all be viewed in the photo gallery. Total expense with Canepa for all work and repairs totaled $32,781.61. Additional work and invoices totaled $8,249.80 for a grand total of $41,031.41. At the same time the services were ongoing, the owner’s car collection manager was able to source the sole remaining set of brand new Pirelli 345/60 VR 17 Scorpion BK tires left in inventory. These rare, “run-flat” off road monsters have since then been out of production until Pirelli announced a new release under their “Collezione” Series to support LM002 owners. However since that announcement, Pirelli's web site continues to state “Currently Not Available.” In fact most recently here on BaT, Hyman Ltd. offered a well seasoned set of five Scorpions which despite being suitable for display purposes only, sold initially for $10K and later for $5K. It has now been essentially ten years since these tires were available new for purchase. This is something that should be given great attention to. Prior to the vehicle being shipped to our San Diego showroom, the owner had the new Pirelli Scorpion BK tires he had sourced fitted to the car. While five years old, they are as new with no actual use and still have the original stickers on them. They remain soft and safe for any manner of use and should be serviceable for five to six years and upward of 15K miles. Upon arrival at our San Diego showroom, the car was sent out to noted Lamborghini Guru, Gary Bobileff’s Bobileff Motor Cars which is just down the street from our San Diego showroom. While there the car was fully inspected and evaluated in preparation for the upcoming sale on BaT. A compression test was completed with prefect results on all cylinders. During the Bobileff inspections, it was found that all of the original suspension bushings and hardware were both original to the vehicle and deteriorated from time. If you thought sourcing the Pirelli Scorpion Tires was a challenge, finding a correct original, NOS set of bottom side rubber was even more of a challenge. Eventually Apex Liz sourced a complete set in the UK and they were purchased at a cost of more than $10K! The car was then delivered to James Millar, owner of Eli’s European, Inc. where the entire bottom side suspension was rebuilt with all of the new bottom side rubber components and associated hardware. Total additional expense for labor and parts came to just over $17,000. As such, to date, more than $58K has been spent prior to the car going live here with our friends at Bring-A-Trailer and that does not include the cost of the new Pirelli Scorpion tires! Ok, so that should be enough to digest for the moment… In any case, this “turn-key” LM002 is ready to tackle the deserts of Arabia or take you and three friends out to breakfast at your favorite eatery in Beverly Hills equally!
