Assessing the depth of a trench !

A basic video for “beginners in phaco” about assessing the depth of the trench in stop and chop technique ! These signs (in my experience) are fairly reliable in gauging the depth of the groove & result in successful division of the nucleus in over 95% times, unless the nucleus is too soft ( where I recommend to be cautious -do not trench beyond 70% depth and crack the nucleus in the periphery rather than the center on both the sides ) for complete separation. Also, in dense PSCs, one cannot rely on the fundal glow sign as it may not be evident due to dense opacity. Also, use a 30-45 deg angled phaco tip with better cutting ability for this purpose. Of course, with experience, the assessment gets better and confidence improves ! Good luck young turks 👍
