Sled dogs are part of the history of the Yukon. During the gold rush, dog-sledding was the only way used to move goods in winter. Dog races quickly became very popular. Nowadays, the Yukon boasts an average of twice as many dogs as inhabitants, and several major competitions take place in the territory. Peter Ledwidge has always been attracted by adventure and the wilderness. A prospector at heart, this geologist discovered the Yukon at age twenty. The training and care required to keep the animals in good physical shape keeps the Ledwidge family busy all year. Today, Peter is preparing for the Percy DeWolfe Race, a commemorative race in honour of an extraordinary character who delivered the mail between the Yukon and Alaska for close to forty years.
