A short video to show the process of building a bike from bamboo. I bought the 29er mtb XL home build kit, from the wonderful Bamboo bicycle club in London UK. This was really great fun to build. Only dead basic tools are required. I especially loved the problem solving element. The rear tyre clearance was always going to be an issue when building with straight bamboo poles. I decided to use mild steel tube, split and shaped around the bottom bracket. This gave me the ability to have the bends in the steel and bond them inside the actual bamboo chainstay pieces. this worked well, but I could have been braver and gone even wider. then I could have fitted 2.6 tyre. This is not the usual way this detail is done, but it gave me a bit more peace of mind that it would be strong enough. Its finished in polyurethane varnish. The lugs had 7x coats and the frame had 3. I highly recommend these kits from Bamboo bicycle club. Really well thought out and they give fantastic support if you need any advice! Thank you. Enjoy!
