Over the weekend, my friends and I went up to Mt. Mataripis in Tanay, Rizal. It would be my 3rd time to camp there, and 5th visit overall. So I didn’t think that a new video on the mountain would be very interesting, even though we decided to descend through a new route via the neighboring Mt. Batolusong. My theory was correct: all these peaks are interconnected, but since the mountains are somehow privately owned, you’ll need to pay Php100 for each peak you pass through. So I thought of another topic for my channel and I thought it would be nice to do one of tent pitching. We have not had a proper Basic Mountaineering Course since the start of the pandemic, so I felt that sharing what I know about a subject I’m actually good at would be nice. I think we all need a refresher of some sorts, since our prolonged break from the outdoors is making all of us forget what we’ve learned through the years. In this video, my tent pitch old tents, new tents, and borrowed tents, so there were a few hiccups along the way. They pitched these tents: Nemo Galaxy 2P, Nemo Dragonfly 2P, Sierra Designs Sweet Suite 2, a Big Agnes, and a Naturehike. This video is for old mountaineers and new ones: anyone pitching a strange tent for the first time, or even an old tent that’s always been confusing. I’ve added a bulletproof step-by-step guide to pitching any freestanding backpacking tent (so tents for car camping, basecamp living, and glamping are excluded).
