Koka's Self Applauding Machine

I have built a machine that applauds itself. You press a button, it plays a short piece different each time, applauds itself and then falls asleep. The wooden sculpture produces sounds acoustically. I turn the stepper motor at different speeds to play melodies. A disposable coffee cup mounted on the motor amplifies the sound. Two additional electromagnets on the back of the instruments play springs to give the melody a rhythm. The audience consists of flat electromagnets attached to the circuit board with guitar strings cut to size. I wrote a small programme that can imitate the applauding audience. Composing realistic applause proved to be a difficult task - programming social dynamics is as challenging as it gets. I will present the Self-Applauding Machine series on 17 November in Madrid. The series includes three unique artworks. @collecion_solo has acquired one work, which will be on display at the museum SOLO in Madrid until 31 December.
