Check out this super quick and easy way to grow tomatillos and/or ground cherries! Its similar to the Winter Sowing method, as discussed in one of my other videos. I'm using over ripened tomatillos saved from my garden the previous summer. If you were using fresh tomatillos, you would want to slice the tomatillo to expose the seeds better. ***A few notes about what I didnt cover in this video: Many sprouts are going to come up in each of these pots, in a huge clump. Fortunately, tomatillos arent bothered by being separated and transplanted. When they are putting on their "true leaves", I will separate them carefully and plant out into the garden in June. There will be many extra plants, which I will either discard or give away; choosing the strongest most vigorous plants for the garden, of course. You could also put these indoors on a heat mat, especially if you are in zone 7 or below. Here in zone 8b/9a, these really grow well and have time to produce pounds and pounds of fruit before the frost gets them in November. Tomatillos and Ground Cherries can be very good at self seeding, and you may not find that you need to even start any at all. Last year I took this approach, and was sweating around July when they hadnt popped up yet! Only 3 ended up germinating in a spot that was kept consistently moist. I wont take that risk again, because these have grown to be one of my must have crops in the garden. If you have any other questions or comments about this video that I feel need to be noted, please let me know in the comments and I will add them HERE. Thank you for watching!
