Richard Mallah heads research in machine learning and artificial intelligence at Avrio AI, Inc., which uses AI to get people jobs rather than eliminate jobs. He also directs AI projects at emerging technology beneficence nonprofit Future of Life Institute, aiming to keep AI robust and beneficial to mankind. Richard is also the data science cofounder of MarketMuse, a groundbreaking web marketing augmentation firm that provides a tool suite for content planning, content analysis, and content creation. He is also an advisor to other startups and nonprofits/NGOs where he advises on AI, AI safety, knowledge management, and sustainability. He has over seventeen years of AI algorithms development, product team management, and CTO-level roles in finance, healthcare, and tech. Richard holds a degree in computer science and AI from Columbia University and is well-read in natural philosophy. Lucas Perry works on artificial intelligence and nuclear weapons risk related projects at the Future of Life Institute. His background is in philosophy with a focus on ethics. He has studied at a Buddhist monastery in Nepal and engaged in meditative retreats and practices which work to influence his study of existential risk. Lucas is passionate about the role that science and technology will play in the evolution of all sentient life and how conventional human ontologies influence and affect moral decision making.
