Thurstaston is a small village on the Wirral peninsula and it was served by a railway station between 1886 and 1954 (for passengers) and 1962 (for goods traffic). Despite being closed for 60 years, substantial remains of the station still exist and form a feature of the Wirral Country Park which follows the 12 mile trackbed of the former Hooton to West Kirby line. Both platforms are mostly intact, as is the cattle dock and freight platform. Adjacent to the station is a visitor centre (currently closed due to the Covid pandemic). The area around the station offers miles of country walks, with views across the Dee estuary to North Wales, and is located only about 10 miles from Liverpool City Centre. A few miles away is Hadlow Road station, also part of the Wirral Country Park which is almost fully intact and has been preserved to keep it's 1950's era appearance.
