Dartmouth Devon | Prettiest Coastal Town Tour | Things To Do In Devon

Join us on our tour of the stunning Devon coastal town Dartmouth. Situated on the South Devon Coast this is a must see place when visiting Devon. Famous for it's Naval college, a very famous Author! and Steam train and a paddle boat, it also has many wonders that are worth seeing. With a population of approx. 9,000 and with an average house price of around £540,000 this stunning town, is full of history. With a castle at the front of the estuary that was built in the sixteenth century to protect the many boats that were harboured there from the French. It is easily a place that you can spend a full day. It also has the Bayard's Cove Fort situated at the end of the town which although small is still worth a visit. Both of these buildings are now part of English Heritage, payment and booking is advised for the bigger castle, but the small fort is free access. With plenty of independent boutiques, bakeries, pubs and restaurants, adorning the little streets, you can easily find yourself a place to stop of for refreshments. And if you have children this is the ideal place for crabbing off the side of the harbour walls. In fact our son Beau managed to fill up an entire bucket full within an hour, so he was very pleased. This 1086, enchanting town was mentioned in the Domesday book - was referred to as Dunestal, but back in those days it was just a small farm which was recognised for having to pay taxes. The town itself sits on the River Dart, which flows from here right through to Totnes and to get here, unless you travel from Totnes, you will find that you will have to take one of the two ferries that travel across on regular intervals throughout the day. Each taking you to a different side of the town. The trips last approximately 5 minutes, so no fear of being sea sick and cost £11 for a return. You can use either ferry to travel back and the last ferries operate 10:45pm, so you can enjoy a full day there. There are also sea ferries that operate form the neighbouring towns of Brixham, Paignton and Torquay, that are also situated on the South Devon coast in the Torbay region. So there is no real reason for you to not visit! During August this town triples in size (population) as it host the Royal Regatta, with people and the boats and yachts travelling from afar to take part. Then during the Spring it is location for various Music events - It does host events that will appeal to all, no matter what age... And of course when you walk around the Harbour, it is worth peeking across the river to see if you can find the home of the famous Author Agatha Christie, by far one of the most famous residents! We hope you enjoy our walkaround and drive through tour and hopefully it will give you an idea of what to expect to see and do if you get a chance to visit this enchanting coastal town. #dartmouth #thingstodoindevon #placestoseeindevon #dartmouthdevon BECOME A MEMBER:    / @thehadwinstv   FOLLOW US:   / thehadwinscom   FIND US ON THE WEB: https://www.thehadwins.com/ CONTACT US : thehadwins@gmail.com
