Welcome back to another adventure on Let’s Walk Japan! Today is our final day in Kyoto, and we’re slowing things down with a relaxing walk through Teramachi Street—one of Kyoto’s most iconic shopping districts. From hidden temples and historic landmarks to delicious local noodles and traditional clothing shops… this street has everything! We start by hopping off at Shijo Station, one of Kyoto’s busiest hubs, and making our way toward Teramachi Street—whether above ground or through the huge underground shopping passage. Once we enter Teramachi Street, we step into a place filled with centuries of history. In the late 1500s, Toyotomi Hideyoshi relocated temples here, transforming it into what became known as “Temple Town.” Over time it evolved into a vibrant marketplace filled with bookshops, artisans, paper craftsmen, and traditional goods. Along the way, we explore: • Harajuku Chicago – where I hunted down a traditional Japanese Haori jacket • Unique shops selling Ukiyo-e art, brushes, and classic Kyoto crafts • The famous giant crab restaurant Kana Doraku Kyoto Honten • Hidden alleyways leading to small shrines and temples • And most importantly… Honno-ji Temple, the site of one of the most dramatic turning points in Japanese history—the betrayal and death of Oda Nobunaga in 1582 After absorbing the history of Honno-ji, we continue down the street and find a spot to eat—Hyakusai Beef Noodles. Fresh handmade noodles, minced beef, egg, and that perfect Japanese flavor… absolutely incredible. Later that night, we grab some sushi from the local grocery store and call it a day. Simple, satisfying, and so Kyoto. This wraps up our Kyoto journey! Next stop: Osaka—where we’ll meet up with an old college friend, explore the city, visit Osaka Castle, and prepare for the second half of this big Asia adventure… China! If you enjoyed this walk, don’t forget to subscribe, hit the like button, and stay tuned for the Osaka episodes! Ja-ne!
