Dennis: This is where we started. And as you can see, it's not very pretty to these where we're going to get these. And yeah, now you can put that away. I didn't see it. I don't want to look at that. Dr. Derik Hoerner: Dennis is a great patient. He's been a patient of the practice actually for many years. He's actually from close to where I grew up. He's very active in the rodeo Community. Over the years, he just lost his teeth. Dennis: It really started back with the hereditary in my family way back to my Grandma. As far as I can remember, she had poor teeth and stuff and it just kind of followed us all. And yeah, there was starting cavities and teeth were starting to be missing. It got to be a challenge to where you couldn't eat certain things so you had to switch things up. With missing teeth as far as going out public, yeah, no one smile, or if you did smile, you're using your hand to cover it up and stuff like that. So I had a brother-in-law refer me to Dr. Derek and he suggested to come here and get it checked out and that's why we kind of started here and been here ever since. Dr. Hoerner: He's like, "You know Direk, I can't be going to a denture. What else can you do for me?" and you know, I said, "You know, Dennis, let's explore dental implants to give you something that you can live and function with." And so, that's exactly what we did for him. Dennis: Well, I'm not really a rodeo star. I'm a judge. So, at the end of year, they have a final type Rodeo deal where they select the top 3 judges in the state to do this and I've been honored to do them for the last 10, 12 years. So, every year you get one of these, which I pass on to my grandkids and naturally there's a lot of pictures taken so you have to have a smile. So, Dr. Derik gave me options. He didn't pressure me at all. He gave me time to go home and think about what I wanted to do and when I wanted to do it. And I'm not going to say that I wasn't a little wary when I first walked through the door, like what did I get myself into, but I thought in my mind, that these implants were going to be probably my worst nightmare. Absolutely, no pain. Never had an ounce of pain in it. It's just like a sigh of relief there. It made the adjustment really easy from no smile, no teeth kind of type deal to a full smile and I absolutely couldn't believe it. When they took the teeth out, put the first set in like that and he said, "This is going to be close to what it looks like" and they handed me that mirror and I went, "Really?" He said, "Yeah, trust me. You can't spit those out." I said, "Well then, let's keep going." Dr. Hoerner: Dennis is back to judging Rodeo competitions, eating steaks, and he's doing better than ever. This confidence is shooting out the gate. Dennis: My oldest granddaughter is a senior now and the next one is going to be a sophomore. So, we were just at graduations, my granddaughter and I and she says, "You know, that smile is going to look pretty neat when I graduate." So that puts the old heart pumping and get your chest swelling a little bit.
