A 1998 episode of Four Corners examining the removal of tram conductors from Melbourne, the introduction of the Metcard ticketing system and moves to hand over the public transport network to private operation. Around the time this episode aired in May 1998, conductors were finally replaced on the Melbourne tram network. Not long afterwards, the tram network was successfully privatized. Today, the Melbourne network is still run privately by Yarra Trams. The Metcard ticket system was replaced with the current Myki system from December 2009. Please be aware that the VHS tape this was recorded on had been used previously and as a result, the quality is not perfect.
