This video guide us all about traction machines of diesel-electric locomotives. Generally a diesel-electric locomotives are three type i.e. DC-DC, AC-DC and AC-AC. In a diesel–electric locomotive, the diesel engine drives either an electrical DC Generator or an electrical AC Alternator with Rectifier. The output of Traction Generator / Alternator, provides power to the Traction Motors that drive the locomotive. These units are called traction machines.
