How To Grow Melon ‘Minnesota Midget’ Harvest Time, Harvesting Melon Plants Who loves the taste of a fresh Melon. Well you can’t get fresher than home grown, and home grown tastes and smells so much better than shop bought. I’ve grown melons before but growing this variety, ‘Minnesota Midget, which is a cantaloupe type is a first for me. I was given 5 seeds and got all 5 seeds to germinate. I have attached the link below to see the start of the growing journey. Once the plants were big enough, and the weather had warmer sufficiently, I planted them. 3 plants went into the greenhouse, all into a singular trough, and the remaining 2 plants went into separate pots. Pots were of 10 litre capacity. When flowers finally formed I had to hand pollinate them as the bees just didn’t seem interested. The link for how to hand pollinate melons can also be found below. And here we are, end of August, having now had ripe Melons. Can’t ask for much more than that for a first time of growing. Next year though!!
