Born in Amsterdam, the Netherlands. He studied at the Amsterdam Conservatory and the University of Amsterdam. He is 21 years old and he is a professor at the Royal Conservatoire. He started his career as a recorder player in the 1950s and is a pioneer in the early music world who has greatly expanded the possibilities of playing by recorders. Brüggen initially started his career as a recorder player and gradually turned from modern recorders to ancient instruments.
