The video was re-edited by Rich Tubbesing from the NRHS Northstar Chapter in 2019. Rich added sound and text which greatly enhance the video. The National Railway Historical Society works to preserve the history of railroads. The North Star Chapter, located here in the Twin Cities, meets each month to view slides and movies of trains and also does a number of trips each year. Currently, the Chapter is meeting each month via Zoom due to COVID. The NRHS North Star Chapter also has an excellent library of books and videos as a reference available to members, Please consider joining the NRHS North Star Chapter and the National Railway Historical Society. http://www.northstar-nrhs.org/ ----------------------------------------------------- The video starts with Amtrak trains in the Twin Cities of Minneapolis and St Paul, Minnesota. The first is No. 7/27 Empire Builder heading North from the old Minneapolis Station on the former NP Line to NE Minneapolis. No. 8/28 follows in St. Paul on its way to Chicago. The next series shows Amtrak trains on the former Pennsylvania RR Four Track Main in Princeton, New Jersey. An Amtrak Local Passenger pulls off the center Express track to the outside local track to stop at Princeton Station. Some railfans have noted that before Amtrak it was impossible to make a GG-1 Electric Locomotive look ugly, but Amtrak showed how it could be done. Several trains with former PC and Pennsy MU Cars arrive from Princeton University. A Penn Central freight passes on its way to New York City with a locomotive consist of - GP-38 / GP-40 / GP-40 / GP-35. An Amtrak Passenger passes at speed on the center Express track. An Amtrak Passenger train with a PC GG-1 passes at speed on the center Express track. Railfans also noted that Penn Central ran a close second to making the GG-1 Electric Locomotive look ugly - as shown. The Southern Railway’s Crescent is next, shown running near Meridian, Mississippi with locomotives – E-8A / E-8A / FP-7A / E-8A. Southern, Rock Island and the Rio Grande elected to not join Amtrak in 1971, so they had to continue to run their own passenger trains for some years. Next a passenger train passes in St. Paul – it is likely the Hiawatha Minneapolis to Chicago train that ran on days that the North Coast Hiawatha did not run. The train had an AMT SDP-40F / E-8B consist. No. 7/27 Empire Builder follows with an F-40 / SDP-40F / SDP-40F / consist. It is heading West on the Stone Arch Bridge into the old Minneapolis Station. Two more No. 7/27 Empire Builders with SDP-40F / SDP-40F consists are shown in St. Paul. The video ends with the Canadian Pacific Steam Train with a Royal Hudson 4-6-4 steam locomotive. The train ran from North Vancouver to Squamish British Columbia. ------------------------------------------------------
