Old time lapse film of type 1 (cavity formation) soft rot wood decay. This was originally filmed in 1983 on 16 mm film with a time lapse interval of minutes. Most of it was filmed using a x50 oil immersion objective with the inoculated birch section inside a liquid culture chamber, but some of it uses a x100 oil objective. During filming the focus changes but it is adequate to see how cavities form. The film jumped in the gate of the projector so there is some jittering during the format conversion.
