Gathering twigs | Beach walk | Acorn Wood | Sewing update | In search of the spring | Christingle porridge | Planting fruit bushes in the cottage garden I’m Imogen, an artist and writer walking in the footsteps of the ancestors here in Norfolk, land of the Eceni. I’m passionate about prehistory and the early Anglo-Saxons, fire, magic, folklore, herbs, stars and the sea . From the moment I fell in love with the old village shop where I live, my dream has been to turn it into a home where art and life combine and thrive. The reality has been somewhat different with money - and builders - running out and many challenges standing in the way of completing the renovation, but now the tide is slowly bringing the dream within reach. When I pause and reflect, as is traditional at this time of year, I know that I’ve come further than I think. The days between Christmas and New Year (and just tipping over into 2023) are certainly quiet and reflective ones. There’s time for a walk on the beach, and forays into the woods and over the heath. The sewing project - still on track to be finished for Old Epiphany - is coming on slowly but always a joy. I have another go at finding the source of the Hundred Stream, and really think that it’s third time lucky. It’s a privilege to be in the company of skein after skein of wild geese, twisting ribbon-like across the afternoon sky. There’s talk of Christingle and the planting of fruit bushes with all their promise. Do come and say hello on Instagram or Facebook, where I’m @theoldshopnorfolk. I have just started a Substack newsletter, sent direct to your inbox every new and full moon. It’s a good place to share longer writings and magazine-style blogs and I’d love your company there. The next one is in just two days time at the full moon on 6 January. Subscribe to Bracken & Wrack (it’s free) at https://imogenashwin.substack.com
