In this video, I will talk about Glaucoma and its medications. I talk about the basics of glaucoma where i define the glaucoma as an optic neuropathy characterized by the progressive loss of retinal ganglion cells. I also discuss the optic disc/rim ratio and the risk factors of glaucoma which include age, Race, family history and elevated IOP. I talk about the distinction between ocular hypertension and glaucoma. Then I talk about the medicines to reduce intra ocular pressure by increasing drainage or decreasing production. Beta blockers act to decrease production. Diuretics increase the drainage of aqeous humor. Prostaglandins increase drainage through uveoscleral pathway, cholinomimetics act to increase the drainage of aqeuous drainage, and alpha agonists serve to decrease the production and increase the drainage. Please write in comment section the topics that you want me to cover in pharmacology.
