How to Style a Flannel for Men How to Wear a Flannel Shirt Flannels are a great addition to any wardrobe because of how versatile, stylish, and timeless these shirts are. Today we're going over the do's and don'ts when it comes to styling a flannel so that you look sharp each and every time you put one on. Rule 1. Keep things simple. Don't get too complex with the outfit. The flannel is the statement piece. Rule 2. Don't layer patterns on top of patterns. This is going to clash and your outfit is going to look extremely sloppy. Stick with the basics when it comes to layering. HOW TO STYLE A FLANNEL 1. Buttoned. This is the classic way. Fully buttoned. More of a dressy, classy look. Keep in mind, unbuttoning a couple buttons on the top can drastically change your look. If you're going out on a date, I would highly recommend opening that up and showing some skin. 2. Unbuttoned This is a little more casual but still a really smart look. Easy way to get into layering. I would recommend a black, white, or grey tee under your flannel. If you have a more subtle colour that matches some colours in your flannel, you can go with that too. 3. Rolling up your sleeves This is a minor detail, but it does make a difference and does send a different message. Doing this is certainly for a more casual setting. As mentioned in the video, a perfect example is if you are out having beers on a patio. Perfect scenario where you would want a tee underneath to allow some airflow and an unbuttoned look to keep things light and fresh. 4. Layering with a Hoodie/Vest This is more the cooler seasons, however another really great way to wear a flannel. This just goes to show the versatility that flannels offer. Paired a flannel shirt with your favourite vest or overtop of your favourite hoodie is a really cool look that again adds depth to your outfit by layering, looks great, and keeps you warm. 5. Tied around your waist This is a different look all together, but it is a good thing to keep in mind when you get too hot or just don't want to wear the shirt anymore. Instead of just putting it away somewhere, wrap it around your waist. It again adds a nice pop to your outfit without needing to worry about it. I hope you learned something new about how to style flannel shirts and can take these tips and use them when you're wearing one next The key with flannels is to keep everything else simple. The flannel does the talking, not your jeans, shorts, or tee. Cheers, Mike
