The Tone King Ironman II Precision Compensated Power Attenuator is just one of many attenuation / load box products on the market and in this video I give some of my reasons for settling on this particular model. For some guitar players there is a time when you just have to say… I’ve tried all the latest amplifiers and software that modern technology has to offer but when it comes down to it… for some… the old amplifiers are still the best but there is one problem… to get that “tone” the volume needs to be LOUD! Attenuators have been around for a long time and I remember back in the 1970s when fairly simple load switches were wired into valve amp heads to try and get control things and yet still give the guitarist the overdrive he desperately sought. The Tone King Ironman II Precision Compensated Power Attenuator is the latest version of this model, adding a balanced XLR output which can be sent to a PA system or studio recording equipment. This new feature includes a ground-lift switch, and a centre/edge of speaker simulation switch. As mentioned, there are many products out there and prices vary from – not a lot – to something that will rival the cost of a decent valve amplifier. Which one should you choose will be down to your own personal requirements and budget. Certainly, for some, where you may add or change-out amplifiers it’s helpful if you have chosen an attenuator that can deal with whatever you choose. Thinking ahead can help you avoid buying something that might end up being a false economy. I hope this video will at least give some insight into the Tone King Ironman II… Enjoy!
