Sky News host Rita Panahi says modern architectural projects such as Federation Square in Melbourne are “hideous concoctions of disaster” worth hundreds of millions. Ms Panahi says modern architecture is called brutalist architecture “because it is brutally ugly” and “is significantly inferior to what came before”. “In the first couple of years when they are all shiny and new there is an appeal” to big modern developments. “But you look at them just 10 or 20 years later and they have aged so badly," she said. Sky News host James Morrow said “there have been some genius works of modern architecture but the problem is they are very much one offs and they get copied over and over again”.
