HOOVERING is a NARCISSIST's “timeless” control tactic because the intention is to keep a target “frozen in time” so that the narcissist can always return as he (or she) pleases. A NARCISSIST disappears and then uses a variety of HOOVERING methods to reappear as if no time has passed at all. It’s a way to mess with an ex’s head indefinitely since the ex becomes conditioned to “wait” for the HOOVER “return” even though the relationship is supposedly over.
