In order to maintain our land and to reach our goals as Homesteaders, we need to add to our land as much as possible. When a deficiency presents itself, we need to be aware. Mullein is an important plant. One that we always had growing naturally on our property. Over the past several years I have noticed a decline in Mullein's presence. That is a concern to me. As stewards of the land, we need to be aware of our land. This made one of my goals this year to re-establish the presence of Mullein. On a random walk, we happened upon a whole colony of Mullein - ones that were going to be destroyed. They would be randomly mowed and lost - this made it a rescue mission. Knowing the life cycle of the Mullein plant (that it is biennial and difficult to transplant), I decided to attempt the project anyway. We were able to rescue 23 plants! This was more than I have seen in a long time, which made us very happy. Unfortunately by the time we rescued all the plants the sun was going down and I had to wait to video them in their new homes. Thankfully they all have done well so far and we are very excited about the possibility of them establishing themselves once again! If there is a problem, I will harvest them and add them to the medicine cabinet. Either way it is a win. These Mullein plants will not be heedlessly mowed into the dirt - if they fail at least we tried. If they don't survive they still add to our medicine cabinet. If they live, then our goal is accomplished. As a homesteader, the goal is to bring as much value as possible to your land. To become as self sufficient as possible. This is how you do that - bring what you can to your land and be better for it. #gardeninghomesteadingskills #nature #survival #naturalmedicine #mullein #oldways #ragnarokshomesteading #homesteading #stewardship #organic #naturalgardening
