Here’s a gameplay demo of a roguelike action prototype I’ve been building over the past month. Why I’m doing this ———————————————————————— This project started as an experiment: Can AI meaningfully accelerate the process of learning and making a game from scratch? I come from a software and systems background rather than traditional game development. With the help of AI tools, I wanted to explore whether it’s possible to rapidly learn game design patterns, implement real systems, and iterate on ideas by actually building and shipping something playable, instead of staying at the concept level. This video captures the current state of that exploration. Core Gameplay Design ———————————————————————— The game is a roguelike action experience focused on: Fast-paced combat against waves of enemies A clear core loop: fight → level up → choose upgrades → get stronger → face bosses A flexible skill drafting system, where players can freely combine skills from different heroes instead of being locked into a single character kit Emphasis on experimentation and replayability rather than perfect balance (at this stage) The goal is to let players create wildly different builds each run and discover unexpected synergies through play. System & Engineering Design ———————————————————————— From an engineering perspective, this prototype focuses on: Modular, data-driven systems (skills, enemies, upgrades, progression) Clear separation between combat runtime and meta progression Reusable and extensible architecture to support future content Rapid iteration loops enabled by AI-assisted coding, debugging, and design discussions Most systems were designed with scalability in mind, even though this is still an early prototype. What this video is (and isn’t) ———————————————————————— This is not a finished game or a polished vertical slice It is a working prototype that reflects real design and engineering decisions Think of it as a snapshot of a learning process and a technical exploration I’m sharing this both to document the journey and to invite feedback from developers, designers, and players who enjoy roguelike systems.
