Sabrina Quesada YT: / @sabquesada IG: / sabquesada TikTok: https://www.tiktok.com/@sabquesada?la... DESCRIPTION: In a glow stick there are two main components. There is the fluid on the inside of the stick that is a combination of a fluorescent dye and a chemical called bis(2,4,6-trichlorophenyl) oxalate, or TCPO for short which is dissolved in a solvent. There is also a small glass vial inside the plastic glowstick tube, which is filled with hydrogen peroxide. When all of these chemicals mix the TCPO uses energy from the hydrogen peroxide which energizes the fluorescent dye allowing it to glow. Now the thing I love the most about this reaction is that it’s really powered by hydrogen peroxide, and there is another reaction that is dependent on hydrogen peroxide that I love so much, and that is elephant toothpaste! And after learning how this reaction worked I was curious if the combination would result in a glowing foam, so I called my good friend Cole Kraten who’s a chemist to see if this would work. Also after doing some more testing I learned that to get the most elephant toothpaste I actually needed to have double the amount of yeast than hydrogen peroxide. However this creates a new problem, how do I mix all of this. The solution, invite over a bunch of friend and use our classic elephant toothpaste pouring device.
