Salvaging Timber & Protecting Regrowth | New England Logging Operation Back in 2023, I was hired by licensed foresters and a local sawmill to tackle a critical logging operation on Water Company property in New England. This project aimed to salvage as much marketable timber as possible from trees devastated by gypsy moth infestations. The infestation had left a significant number of trees dead or dying, making it essential to remove them before they lost all value. Using the TimberPro with the Ryans DS28C, I worked through the site to extract salvageable logs for lumber while also producing firewood where possible. The remaining slash was intentionally left behind to protect the regeneration of hardwood species, helping shield young trees from deer and other browsing animals in the years to come. This practice ensures healthy forest regrowth, supporting biodiversity and long-term sustainability. One of the Water Company foresters recorded the drone footage, capturing an aerial perspective of the operation in action.
