In this video I'm going to share with you how to bridge the gap between you and your #challengingstudents This is a framework we use in most of our trainings. It helps Leaders and teachers better understand themselves and why they do the things they do, as well as understand other people and their perspectives as well. Here at Hey Miss we use the profile of Aus.Identities because it’s simple, it’s fun and it’s specifically designed for schools and #classroom teachers. Within Aus.Identities there are four main personality types. These are based on patterns of human behaviour. I’m going to give you a brief overview of each of the types so you can start to gain a better understanding of your students and their specific needs that may or may not be getting met in the classroom. First of all we have our Wombat types – and much like the animal they are hard-working and meticulous to detail. They love order, structure and routines. And because of this they adjust really well to the classroom environment – because it’s all about order, structure and routines. Next we have our dolphins. And it’s important for them to make personal and meaningful connections. They’re quite imaginative and can get lost in the flow of their thoughts sometimes. These are the kids who need encouragement and support in the classroom and tend to shy away from anything that is overly competitive or impersonal. We then have our Eagle types. These guys love big-picture thinking, solving complex problems and they’re all about self-mastery. They don’t tend to give in to peer pressure and they’ll have no problems challenging authority and questioning the experts. And last of all we have our Kangaroo types – you will literally see these guys jumping around in your classroom. They’re all about action, spontaneity and they often leap before they look (because it’s more fun that way). They are hands-on learners and can become quite stressed if they are forced to sit passively taking in information for long periods of time. By identifying someone’s personality type you have a greater chance of understanding how they best learn in the classroom. It can also give you insight into potential conflicts you might have with certain students. And if you can anticipate this ahead of time you have a greater chance of minimizing the conflict altogether – whether you decide to optimize or compromise their strengths. No matter who you are working with, whether it be with your students, colleagues or parents; the first step is always to understand who you are in all of this and how you operate as a #Teacher . So I’d love to know what Aus.IDentites type you identify with the most.
