I finished this video a few days ago, but wanted to upload it today because today is Elena's 9th birthday :) Happy Birthday in Heaven, Elena x3 I love you so much x3 Elena's story is so amazing. When she was diagnosed with DIPG, her parents, Brooke and Keith Desserich, were told Elena only had 135 days to live. They started a journal, after her diagnosis, so they could share memories of Elena with their younger daughter, Gracie. When Elena couldn't speak anymore, she turned to drawing and artwork as a way to communicate. One of her drawings was even hung in the Cincinnati Art Museum-a dream come true. After Elena passed away, on August 11, 2007, her parents were cleaning when they started finding notes saying "I love you, Mom, Dad, and Grace" or a page full of hearts everywhere-behind bookshelves,in dresser drawers, in breifcases, Christmas ortament bags-throughout the house. They found the first one right after Elena passed away and are still finding them today. "That was just her of letting us know that everything would be okay," Brooke Desserich. Keith and Brooke have made Elena's journal into a book called "Notes Left Behind" and I would recommend it to anyone, even if you dont like reading, because it's amazing. Keith and Brooke have also made a website dedicated to children with DIPG or who have passed away and Elena's picture that was hung in the Cincinnati Art Museum is the logo for the site.
