Born into a family of organ players in 1727 , Couperin was raised by his father and followed his profession. Couperin spent his entire life as musician and never travelled far. When he died in an accident in February 1789, he owned over 800 books and several keyboard intruments. The 'Pièces de Clavecin' may be a collection including older works. Though a traditionalist, Couperin seems to have been somewhat secretive about his works. None of his works for organ were published to this day.
