The mesenteric arteries are two of the most important arteries in the abdomen. They supply blood to the majority of the small intestine, colon, and pancreas. The superior mesenteric artery (SMA) arises from the abdominal aorta and divides into several branches, including the right colic artery, middle colic artery, left colic artery, ileocolic artery, and jejunal arteries. These branches supply blood to the ascending colon, transverse colon, descending colon, sigmoid colon, jejunum, and ileum. The inferior mesenteric artery (IMA) also arises from the abdominal aorta and divides into several branches, including the left colic artery, sigmoid arteries, and superior rectal artery. These branches supply blood to the descending colon, sigmoid colon, and rectum. Here are some of the clinical conditions that we are going to discuss are the Superior mesenteric artery syndrome, jejunal lengthening and chronic intestinal ischemia.
