Bob Boilen performing at Milton New Music & Wind Fest

My first solo performance in over 40 years took place in Milton, Delaware. It's the home of Bill Warrell, the owner and curator of DC Space and also the presenter of so many amazing shows in Washington, D.C. His Milton New Music & Wind Fest brought together many great D.C. area musicians, including The Messthetics and a performance of Terry Riley's 'In C." My performance featured ambient music that I've composed over the years, including tracks from albums such as 'Hidden Smiles' and 'Under Covers.' I included my ambient interpretation of David Bowie's 'Heroes' and dedicated it to Bill Warrell, my hero and a big source of inspiration in my life. My music is challenging to perform live, so I improvised over the top of my recordings. For safety's sake, the set was cut short by a downpour, although I weathered the storm thanks to the help of a brave group of friends and staff. Thank you.
