Control that flow! There's a ton of different parts, pieces and setups floating around out there and I'm here to talk about some basics. LS power steering pumps all kinda get lumped together, but in reality there are quite a few variations. I'm going to concentrate on the truck LS engine pumps or P-Series pumps. A lot of times when doing a LS swap you'll run into pressure or flow or both being too high for your donor vehicle. Whether is a stock rack and pinion, aftermarket or gearbox steering you can run into all sorts of issues. Twitchy, overpowered steering is the most common but if you over-pressure a steering setup you can also blow out seals especially at full lock and stressed. You can use a pressure reduction kit to tweak the high pressure side down to a more reasonable number. This valve is designed to control hydraulic pump pressure and "release" pressure before damage occurs on the stock application. Most GM's use a metric O-ring fitting but older models us a flare fitting with standard thread. You can get the adapter here so you can bolt a newer pump into an older vehicle. https://www.dirtydingo.com/shop/produ... The next issue is flow - The truck series pumps can move almost twice the amount of fluid compared to some of the car pumps. A truck based LSX pump going into a 1964 Chevy C10 probably won't cause any issues as long as you're ok with a somewhat muted road feel. It'll steering like a single cab couch on wheels - I love it. But if you putting anything from the truck family in car (240SX, Miata, RX7, Fox Body Mustang) you'll definitely be over flowing the stock systems. CPP makes a reasonably priced one that is an awesome upgrade to C10/Silverado's to bring back just enough feel of the road IMO. At the time of uploading the video (pandemic) I cannot find the CPP one in stock anywhere. I'm linking the Billet Specialties/AFCO version instead - they're basically identical. It works especially well on Ford Mustang swaps and I've driven several cars with 4 shims and that specific flow valve. If you have an odd application or need help deciding or need one custom made to your specs - KCR has you covered. They can recommend/build you a setup based on intended use, vehicles weight, type of steering and pump needed. Most aftermarket flow control valves have an output with a 6AN fitting to make fabricating braided lines a snap.
