● XI Congresso Brasileiro sobre Crustáceos (CBC) & The Crustacean Society Summer Meeting (TCS) - 2022; ● NEW SPECIES OF AEGLA (CRUSTACEA, ANOMURA) DISCOVERED IN THE TIBAGI RIVER BASIN, PARANÁ, BRASIL; ● Tiago Arantes; Ingrid C. Marçal; Fernanda P. Páez; Maria Clara M. Silva; Priscila Frazato; Gustavo M. Teixeira; There are 61 species of Aegla recorded in Brazil and 7 occur in the Tibagi river basin. However, many streams are in urban zone, pastures, and agricultural matrices. As a result, about 70% of species are under threat, requiring urgent conservation measures. For this, a premise is the correct identification of the species. The objective of this work was to expand the knowledge about the richness and distribution of Aegla in the Tibagi river basin. The collections were carried out in two streams in the municipality of Curiúva of Paraná, Brazil. Identification was performed based on morphological and molecular data (mitochondrial gene - COI). Molecular analyzes suggest that A. lata is closer to Aegla n. sp, when compared to other species from the Tibagi River Basin. Therefore, we suggest that Aegla n. sp. be classified as “Endangered” (EN). The unique combination of morphological characters found in Aegla n. sp. indicate the discovery of a new species for the Tibagi river basin.
