Thus, the two mayoral candidates Marcus Kitz and Matthias Großgarten could look at a packed event area when they officially opened the show together with André Neff (Oldtimerfreunde Niederkassel) in the early evening. It's hard to estimate how many different cars were put on display by their owners over the two days. But by a rough estimate, there were probably between 400 and 500 models and a total of over 1,000 "oldies". From the whimsical egg-shaped Fuldamobil from the 1950s to imposing Cadillacs, indestructible Beetles, Ducks and Rolls Royces, everything that shaped the automotive world in earlier decades was represented. The couple Dorothea and Mike B. from Rheidt were represented with two treasures. Mike explains: "At the time, we had considered what hobby we could pursue together in our retirement years and then decided on classic car driving. In 2009, the Chevrolet Corvette, built in 1973, was purchased, which I have somewhat refined over the years with a lot of hard work in the garage; my wife then enjoyed driving it so much that the desire for her own classic car quickly arose. She is now an enthusiastic driver of a Corvair. The social factor is not to be sneezed at either. We take part in many rallies and are always happy to meet old acquaintances and like-minded people". Peter from Troisdorf, also the owner of a Corvette, had a slightly different motivation: "Ever since I was a teenager, I've dreamed of owning a Chevrolet Corvette one day. It was less about wrenching for me, but simply about the fun of driving such a car. Of course, I'm also pleased when my car attracts interest at presentations like the one here in Mondorf and I can exchange ideas with classic car fans."
