I never thought of myself as a bird person. I could imagine being known as the crazy cat lady someday, but not the crazy BIRD lady. However, I like to feed the wild birds and thoroughly enjoy my little chicken flock so I thought I would branch out to something less common. When I was a child, there was a farm behind our house and through the woods, that had many animals. Peacocks among them. They were so exotic. With beautiful feathers we loved to collect. So I thought ...why not? Peacocks eat bugs. We have plenty of bugs. They can be loud, but we have plenty of space between us and any neighbor. I started pricing peacocks and was quite surprised by how expensive they are. Depending upon whether you are looking for a male or female, even very young birds run $600-1200. Okay, that was out of the question. Hum...what about hatching them myself? So back in March I bought 4 egg futures on Ebay. They were expected to be laid in May and would be shipped USPS priority mail. I received them on May 10. Guaranteed fertile but no guarantee on how the post office would treat them. Will they hatch? This video covers the last 3 weeks, 21 days , since they have been placed in the incubator. They are large and must be hand turned several times a day. And because my incubator is set at 45% humidity and peacock eggs need a lot of humidity, I am also misting them when I turn them. Is Any Body There? Watch and let me know what you think. The answer is expected in 7 days.
