One of the many old barns I ran across in the State of Vermont. The original was a heavy Maroon Red color and rather dull and unappealing from a painter's point of view. I decided to make this more interesting by using a variety of warm and cool colors. Notice the cool blue cast on the shadow side of the barn vs the bright light warms on the sunny side. Against the cool greens of the foliage, the building pops. Adding a few pecking chickens and the old rusting barrel guide your eye into the barn much like a driveway would. This is a little trick that I picked up from a workshop that I took some years ago with Tony Couch. I've had the pleasure of working with s number of great painters and learned a little from each. Tony, George, Alvaro, Joseph, Tom, Don, so many more. The main thing above all is not to paint "Like" them but to use what you learned from them and make the painting yours.
